“Surely the church community would not be pleased to hear the deacon likening a 5-year-old girl to a prostitute.”
Mouth-to-genital contact, however, is not normal among preschoolers. Did the kids at the Carson School know that? Probably not.
“Children at this age don’t comprehend what they’re doing, except that they’re playing with private parts that they’ve been told to keep private,” says Elkind. “As long as they don’t see it as traumatic, it’s unlikely that they would have lifelong side effects.”
Problems can arise, though, when adults sexualize the activity, thrusting their own preconceived notions or anxieties on the children. Parents’ strong reactions may lead to “overdramatizing everything in the child’s mind,” according to Elkind.
The father of one of the children who allegedly received oral sex from a girl in the bathroom, voiced his anger over the incident when he broke the story toABC News. “He told me about all the bad things that girl had been doing to him,” the dad said. “I just had to keep yelling in his ear, ‘You’re not in trouble, you’re not in trouble!’ And I just told him, ‘You’re never coming back here again for these people to do this to you.’”
Permalink Reply by Debra Stevenson on June 5, 2013 at 10:45am That's fucking sick! Please, excuse my language. That is not acceptable behavior for adolescent children to be doing to each other even if it is true. Comparing a five-year-old girl to a prostitute is morally wrong.
This article is just too disgusting to read, I'm sorry.

Permalink Reply by Rachel Riley on June 5, 2013 at 7:04pm I think the parents in this situation needed to remain calm, at least in front of their children, and have a talk with their child about what happened.... however, the deacon who compared the little girl to a prostitute, WHAT THE HELL?! That is sickening in itself, and there should've been much more supervision going on at that school. I'm not sorry it's shutting down.
Permalink Reply by Emma Lennon on June 5, 2013 at 7:55pm Um...ok. I'm never going to be able to get that story out of my head now. I won't hold any of the children involved responsible. Even the girl who performed the act. She's a little girl, for crying out loud. It should be explained to her that what she did was not appropriate for her age, but she shouldn't be vilified, and she certainly should not be compared to a prostitute. Though it does make you wonder what this child's home life is like. I mean, she must have been exposed to this act some how. Kids just don't do something like that on their own. And I'm talking about that one specific act. I mean, if the kids had been touching their own private parts, while that is also wrong, it's somewhat understandable. Kids at that age are prone to doing that. But this is just unbelievable. It sickens me..
