This isn't a debate on the morality of porn. Its a debate on censorship, which we all know to be wrong.

UK ban on porn. Basically they want you to contact your ISP if you choose to view porn. Hence banning it at a level that they can more easily control. This is to be done in the name of the children.

In 3 words: not gonna happen.

In 2 words: political pissing

In 1 one word: unworkable.

Given the background screen - how exactly does banning porn save children?  What are the studies that have been done?  What is the result of those studies?  Without evidence, the people who are wanting the ban, are exploiting children, in the name of "protecting" them, from some unnamed menace.  I could see banning violence before banning porn, if we were in a banning mood.
Won't someone think of the children!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I appreciate you posting this. I live in the UK and hadn't noticed this yet.
but....lets link to proper news media (aka people who sit down when discussing news):

Radio interview: "Interviewer: Is that practical?  Miles: Not really." I love the way he says it.

I wish they could spend all their 'violating civil liberties' budget on say, not slashing education. I hate the Tories so much.

I was just wandering around youtube while bored at work and found it. I know there is no serious way of implementing this without seriously crippling the internet and people freedom of speech.

Just interesting to see what some people will try to force on others. I mean the ISP shouldn't carry any of the burden. If you don't want your child doing something then stop them from doing it. If you can't monitor your child's internet use then maybe they shouldn't have it, or you should stop worrying about it.

@sentient Biped,

yeah, I have to ask how does restricting access of pornography to children actually prevent them from being abused?  What kind of pornography is being accessed?

I would be curious to see who introduced the legislation, and what their affiliations are.

"kids are sexually abusing other kids" ~ I'd have to question that.  if sex with a child is considered abuse, and two underage kids have sex, is that children abusing other kids sexually?

maybe the real statement should be about the culture of pornography right now, where its becoming more and more extreme to elicit the same responses in individuals~ this seems just like a puff piece, where none of the pertinent questions are being asked.

First the blasphemy law, now this?  Anarchy in the UK, baby!

Teaching religion to children should be banned.  It should be a legal requirement for parents and schools to equip children with the tools to think critically, recognize bias, understand credibility, and identify scams.  Parents who actively block their children from learning these skills should be charged with child abuse.  We know that lack of ability to think critically harms children - in fact harms everyone. Porn?  I don't think there is any research to demonstrate that viewing images depicting sex or nudity cause harm to anyone.

Did you know that there are actually "Christian" operating systems available, and christian web browsers that don't allow any unapproved "heathenistic" material on the computer?
Holy Crap!
I think we should teach children about all religions at the same time.

I think they're going about it all wrong.  The whole argument is whether or not porn hurts kids.  I think it should include whether porn benefits kids.

Kids have very short attention spans.  What if they intermingled porn clips with math problems or chemistry problems.  Or included the problems as part of the plot of porn movies, sort of "Debbie does quadratic equations" or "Deep organic chemistry".  Kids would watch intently while learning the lesson of the day.  I bet their attention spans would be much longer this way.

I LIKE THIS

"oh yeah, give it to me!!

"uh, oh yeah, that integer represents the square route of -b divided by the summation of -a multiplied by c squared"

"oh, that makes me so HOT!"

now THATS porn!
