when was this?
Permalink Reply by Pat on December 30, 2012 at 3:02pm There's also an excellent segment around 19:00 to 20:10 when Pell talks about how the Jews were not an intellectual society when compared to Egyptians and others of the times. The moderator then points out that 'ole JC himself was Jewish, and according to Pell, "was not up to the task." Other than that, and Pell's obvious ignorance with the "Neanderthall" comment, it was the same old "science and religion occupy two different spheres" BS. You want to yell out, "Yes they do. The former deals in reality while the latter works in the same sphere as the Grimm Brothers and Hans Christian Anderson."

Permalink Reply by Jedi Wanderer on December 30, 2012 at 3:04pm Is that true, does Darwin say on pg. 92 of his autobiography that he is a theist? Was Dawkins wrong, or was cardinal bell?
Permalink Reply by Pat on December 30, 2012 at 3:24pm The 'good Cardinal' (notice the tongue-in-cheek sarcasm) is technically correct, but in this technicality, promotes a lie. On pages 92-93 of Darwin's autobiography, Darwin refers to himself as a Theist - but a Theist at the time he wrote the Origin of Species. Darwin goes on to state that since that time, his belief, "has very gradually with many fluctuations become weaker." Darwin concludes on page 94, "The mystery of the beginning of all things is insoluble to us; and I for one must be content to remain an Agnostic."
Having been raised a Catholic, I was always taught that it is a sin to lie. Apparently, Pell missed that lesson in the seminary, since he was promoting a lie, that Dawkins rightly called him on.
