Passenger Tells Female Airline Captain: Bible Says Cockpit is ‘No Place for a Woman’
A Canadian airline pilot said that she was shocked after receiving a recent note that cited the Bible as a reason flying airplanes were “no place for a woman.” WestJet pilot Carey Steacy told CTV that crews were cleaning the aircraft after a flight from Calgary to Victoria on Sunday, and they found the note from a passenger named “David” written on a napkin. Being religious is the perfect guise for your sexism, racism, violent urges, latent sexual urges, and so on and so forth. "I'm not being sexist; I'm just a devout Christian!" Yeah, and a bona-fide a$$hole.
I saw this story the other day and, as I am a flight attendant, it certainly caught my eye. Thanks for posting this. I was going to and then forgot.
I've flown with female pilots countless times, both as captains and first officers. On rare occasions, I've even flown with both seats in the flight deck occupied by females. I think it's fantastic having women up front because it's such a male-dominated work group. On the other hand, it's just routine for me and I don't think much about it.
Unfortunately, the gender stereotypes still persist and, believe it or not, it's not just from men. A couple of years ago I was working a trip with two female pilots. After the passengers boarded the plane and before we left the gate, one of my female flight attendant coworkers came to me and said, "You wouldn't believe what this lady in the back just said to me?" The female passenger said, "I see we have two women pilots. Do you think we'll be OK?" Much to her credit, my coworker replied, "As a woman, I can't believe you're asking that question," and walked away.
BTW, the news links aren't working in the original post, so here's a link to the story:
Thanks Carl.......my internet connection has been acting up all evening, but don't know if that's the problem. I finally had to shut the main pc & the netbook off, & get on the Mac to reply. Am still learning my way around the Mac, so am using windows, but it's getting to the point I'd like to toss it against a brick wall.
Whatever the case, that note strikes me as a muslim (among others,) type of comment, & I for one wish they'd mind their own damn business & we'll mind ours!
"that note strikes me as a muslim" The note clearly quotes Proverbs.
I know there's a lot of muslim asshats around but this is unlikely to be one.
Just give discredit where discredit is due.
"that note strikes me as a muslim (among others,) type of comment"
is what I said.
"Respectfully in love"?!? That jack-fuck sonofabitch got to his destination alive because a competent pilot who happened to be a woman was at the controls of the aircraft he flew in!
Maybe we should inform him that the cabin of an aircraft is no place for an asshole. The farts stink up the cabin and the other passengers and crew don't much appreciate it. Indeed, this is the 21st century, not the 14th.
"Respectfully in love" got me too. It blows my mind that they'll use "love" as their out. That whole "hate the sin, love the sinner" bullshit. NO. If you love someone, you love them no matter. If you don't accept a person for who they are, there is zero love anywhere.
Well, if you're one of the 'true believers' that believes he owns the monopoly on all that is right, good, holy and righteous, he's right. But I would expand that thinking that men have no business in the cockpit either. There's weren't planes in the bibble. Neither were there cars, so one shouldn't be behind a the wheel. Moses never made a phone call, so we should all abandon the use of electronic communication. And, don't get me started on electricity and modern medicine. By the way, what's that SOB doing in Canada in the first place? The bibble never mentioned North or South America.
The next time that infected wart on a the head of a bleeding hemorrhoid wants to take a trip, I suggest he put on a coarse robe, sandals, and load up the donkey. Maybe he can get some woman to walk 5 paces behind him. Then, he can make it back to his cave with all the other troglodytes.
Someone should have asked the smartass what airplanes they were flying in bible days? How could this possibly apply to today? Even if their holy book made claims for a woman's "highest honor" what would this have to do with being a pilot?
Ignorant moronic idiots!
This kind of crap used to surprise me, but after many moons of watching the religious make complete fools out of themselves, this actually appears par for the course.
