Recent politics in Australia has resulted in an encouraging step forward and one disappointing step backwards.
Senator Cori Bernadi, Parliamentary Secretary of the opposition Liberal party (don't be confused by name, this is the Conservative side of Oz Politics) was forced to resign after he made comments suggesting Marriage equality would lead to Bestiality being legalized. A logical step I am sure most of you have made before :).
Even the ex-seminarian leader of the Liberals, Tony Abbott was forced to act after the understandable outrage caused by Bernadis comments.

Unfortunately even after this glimmer of light we then had the disappointment of Marriage equality legislation before Parliament being soundly defeated.

The fight hopefully will continue.
