OBAMA CARE...So this is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause.
Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. This is a statement of our most basic individual rights. Over the centuries our human rights have been abused and eroded but always one could still say (...most of the time, in this country...) one could mind their own business and be left totally alone to live their life with no interference from anyone. But with this new health care bill, soon everyone will have to pay a fee to the government, or insurance company, for being alive.
...our last tiny bit of absolute liberty will be erased.

Any form of taxation based on income is arguably socialist. Anytime you have one person paying more because of his/her overall wealth is in fact re-distributing wealth and ultimately socialistic. The USA has been doing this since long before I was born (with my approval).

FYI, this year we celebrate the income tax's 2000th birthday. The first income tax was instituted by Han emperor Wang Mang. Hardly a socialist in the modern sense, although some like to dub him that way (he certainly was more "socialist" than most of his fellow despots.)

Apparently the permanently adolescent libertarians think that requiring everybody to pay into the health care system so that everybody can be covered is the final and fatal insult to individual liberty.

Excellent point, Marshall. Hard to imagine a more liberty-restricting action on the part of government. At least the Navy is up-front about it, referring to vacation time as "liberty".
