I spent most of my last summer in tonatico, a small mexican town. One thing that caught my eye was all the religious propaganda there-around every street corner was a picture of the virgin mary or jesus on the cross. It was infested where I stayed too. My grandma is highly religious and my cousins/uncles etc. also believe in sky daddy. Because of the language barrier and my spanish not advanced enough to engage in philosophical arguement, I haven't be able to come out to them. I plan on visiting next year

and I don't want hide it from them. What I'm most afraid of is having my good relationship with my grandma ruined.

Sometimes wanting to express who you are can be a breath of fresh air and huge weight off your shoulders and sometimes it can backfire and cause big problems. Luckily you have a year to decide if you should take this action or not. With your grandma, it might be wiser to keep yourself an angel in her eyes.

I told my grandma and she loves me for me - despite her being a Muslim (actually practicing). I think your grandma will love you for you but you shouldn't emphasize debate with her every minute of the day. After all - she is old - and her religion is all she has in life that helps her anticipate death.
