I was just pointed to sexism as a problem within the Atheist community, before then i thought it might exist simply because of deviation but i didn't know it was a problem.
I agree, there are alot of Atheist or Freethinking guys out there, but i would have to argue the percentage of success is a bit higher than with Theists. Although, alot of young Christian guys these days don't really care when it comes to religion in who they date, unless you're in the Bible belt and their mama' is comin out front wit a shotgun! It is true, i'm socially awkward. For me it's the fact that any intelligent conversation i could have is less likely to happen where i live. Like Robert Affinis said "Environmental exposure plays a tremendous part in how one corresponds to their social spectrum."
I want someone fun too, maybe because I've been boring. But i would attribute alot of that to the fact that i can't show my true self to normal women. A large part of my personality is my intelligence and I can't really make a joke about how ridiculous the Bible is or talk about the Particle Zoo.
Anyway, I think you will find someone great.
More than a year later, but the wording that Anna used in her title could describe my situation. I have been married twice, but I am a widow with an 18-year-old daughter and a 9-week-old grandson who both live with me. I am 56, but probably look somewhat younger. I have a PhD and I work 4 jobs to make ends meet. Our household distribution of labor is a work in progress. I am in the New Orleans area.
I want to post a photo, but it seems that it will take an hour or more to do so: I seem to be getting nowhere! If you click on the empty box, you should be able to see my picture anyway.
Please look for me at SCICON 2011 in New Orleans in late October 2011--my first attendance at a skeptic's/atheist's event. I am up for meeting both men and women; here in the Bible Belt, it is especially precious to make an atheist friend!
