"MCT - so why are you complaining about having to keep working because you haven't earned the amount you wanted?"

Alice! I am not complaining about needing to work. I love to work!!! I have a tentative plan to relinquish my citizenship, so I can spend my money how I wish. It's a principle thing. I do not know yet if it will be cost effective or logistically possible and how much I am willing to trade for my freedom. It is less about the money and more about reaching certain career goals. In a few years, I will have a lot of cash and credit, and hence more means to do more stuff, like start a business, create a lab, relinquish my citizenship, I just don't know.

MCT - so if you relinquish your citizenship where will you go?  I don't know of many places that accept new residence and don't have a government, laws etc...  I'm intrigued to hear of such a place....

That's funny. Since when do you need to be a citizen to live in the US? I think there are laws here though that only allow you to live here 'legally' for a certain amount of time at a time, like 6 months, before you have to pay taxes, but I don't know, really. Maybe I could purchase some special Visa, but I don't think the US gov will be so willing to let my tax money go somewhere else. My job will afford me the opportunity to work 3 months here, 2 months somewhere else and then 4 months somewhere else and then back to the US for 6 and so on. My family travels often and extensively, so it might work out, but I don't want to do that forever, necessarily. I'd rather be free here, but since that's not possible either, I guess I'll likely 'sell out' and pay taxes, like a good little bitch.

How long have you been paying taxes for already?

On and off since I was 15, 22 years ago. But straight for the last 10 years, why?

"I guess I'll likely 'sell out' and pay taxes, like a good little bitch."

Just curious as that comment made me wonder....in retrospect I can see its context.

MCT well we all need to come to terms with the limitations of our reality

That's true. And in that 'spirit', I live on a fantastically awesome planet! And am clearly willing to trade a portion of my life and sustain some infringements on my rights in order to live. I just don't think I should have to, to stay out of jail.

MCT - I think we all go through that at different times in our lives.....

Somalia, Afghanistan, the South Bronx...

"MCT - well I suppose with such a system - this would happen anyway - because people would need to find a way of paying their rent in  a stable way so that they could turn up for work every day....."

-If set by the market, great. Not great, if set by the government.

MCT - although China works like this - in that people travel to get jobs in the city, in which they work for long hours for not much pay - and get health problems from their work place also - I saw a documentary about it - where mothers of babies go to work in the city, leaving their babies with their mother - and the child only sees their mum once a year, because she can't afford to travel home often.  It was very sad to watch.  This isn't defined as slavery because she is going to work freely and gets paid a wage.  But I think it is very sad that her choices are limited to her accepting this lifestyle as the best available.
