The singularity is pretty much a transhuman concept following on from moores law but applied over a broader spectrum of tech.......There are plenty of other cool places to look, its just that if any article or forum mentions her name its likely to be transhuman in type.

I like your observation and will go further to suggest that those who advocate any particular political system are no better than theists because they rely solely on faith that their particular dogmatic configuration of domination and submission will cure ills, bestow riches, effect equality and bring paradise on earth. Historical facts indicate that no system of government has created a perfect community and I claim none ever will.
To witness atheists arguing politics is hysterically hypocritical.
Permalink Reply by Alice on December 9, 2011 at 11:34pm funk - get a piece of shit and knock it into shape - but we can still have our ideals - they are like archetypes that we work towards, whilst all the time knowing that they can't be true or real.
Permalink Reply by funk Q on December 10, 2011 at 5:33am Ideals are fantasies and idealists become fanatics in pursuit of their ideals and imposing them on all. Maybe you know they can't be true or real but Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Mugabe and a shit load of muslims have had problems discerning the difference.
Is a trilateral pyramid to your liking?
Permalink Reply by MCT on December 10, 2011 at 5:45am How do you define ideal, idealism and idealist? I don't agree with this idea that idealism is bad. What is wrong with wanting to create, design or institute the ideal set of laws or situation in which to live? I think it is the fact that the ideal is possible is what differentiates it from perfection. The ideal situation, not the perfect situation, but the ideal one is attainable. Having bad ideals, like the people you list, makes bad actions. Having good ideals make good actions.
Permalink Reply by funk Q on December 10, 2011 at 6:25am I make no value judgement about idealism and never imputed it was bad. There is nothing wrong with having fantasies so long as it is recognised they are only that and the urge to impose them upon others, especially the unwilling, is resisted.
You've confused me with "the fact that the ideal is possible is what differentiates it from perfection", I think you'll find they are synonyms.
Having bad ideals, like the people you list, makes bad actions. The people I listed actually thought their ideals were good it was their opponents and victims who thought they were bad. I reiterate that I make no value judgement about idealism.
Permalink Reply by MCT on December 10, 2011 at 11:47am I think ideal makes more sense as attainable, as destinguished from perfection (I'm not interested in a Wiki-link here).
Well, I'll make a value judgment about your list, they had bad ideologies and were bad people, in fact, I find it curious that you don't claim to make value judgments about them and that is precisely what they have in common. That is a list of people with bad ideologies, regardless of whether or not they thought they were good.
Why do you write shit like, 'I confuse you with'? No I didn't. That is the idea I put forth, I never suggested you put it forth.
I think not having an ideology means you don't think about things long term. You just have principles to disarm others and don't hold any to make a plan.
What is wrong with wanting to create, design or institute the ideal set of laws or situation in which to live?

The problem enters when someone confuses an ideal direction for a final goal!
Permalink Reply by MCT on December 10, 2011 at 4:54pm I don't like it. Shoot for a goal, but don't reach it?
