LGBT a treatable illness (According to the Malaysian Government)

This is the excerpt from Malaysian Star newspaper. What do you expect from a 'progressive, moderate Islamic country'?

I like how they said they don't want to 'discriminate', just to 'prevent'.

SHAH ALAM: Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Puad Zarkashi has described lesbians, gays, bi-sexuals and transgenders (LGBT) as an illness that can be treated.

He called on parents to recognise the symptoms early to prevent their children from practising the LGBT lifestyle.

For those already adopting the lifestyle, Dr Puad said "intervention by teachers and parents, followed by counselling, can help them to return to the right path".

Dr Puad was speaking at a parenting seminar on how to curb LGBT organised by Yayasan Guru Malaysia Berhad.

"LGBT is a social illness. We have to raise awareness on it. Just like drugs, a lack of awareness will cause LGBT to spread," Puad said.

He called on parents to be attentive to their children and take note of their behaviour. "If your son keeps asking for permission to spend the night at the house of another male friend, then you must check to ensure that nothing else is happening," he said.

The seminar, which was attended by hundreds of teachers and parents, was the 20th in a nationwide series organised by Yayasan Guru Malaysia Berhad.

Dr Puad said the intention of the programme was not to discriminate against LGBT but to raise awareness and promote early prevention.

Oh, they don't want to discriminate, they just want to discriminate preemptively!

And what do they intend to do when their anticipatory actions don't have the desired effect?  Do we get pogroms and reeducation camps to correct the supposedly aberrant behavior of their children and youth?  Someone had better tell these people that this has been tried before ... and it didn't work ... and it won't work this time either.

Next atheism will be a treatable illness.

Yeah, right.  Trust me when I tell you, They Do NOT Want To Attempt To Treat ME!

They won't like my reactions to their treatment ... not at all.

I'm with you on that one.  I am afraid that my response would make me appear to be mentally ill.

Actually, I suspect not, Michael.  I won't speak for you, but in my case, I would more likely appear to be death in both hands, avec attitude.

Anyone wishing to mess with me will wind up a mess.  'Nuff said.

There's just as much basis to posit that heterosexuals -- with their inability to participate in a category of loving, fulfilling relationships -- "suffer" from an "illness"!

That argument has been posited by some homosexuals (including my gaily-married sister): heterosexuality is a learned behaviour.
