Someone posted this very same link later in the day than you did in this forum, and one of the responders is writing to the LA Times about her piece.

i'm not too sure, i didn't check the date, but someone sent me the link to it, and i read the letter that she sent to the paper, and i thought it was quite good, basically mentioning that if you had substituted any other groups name that might have had civil rights issues like homosexuals, blacks, etc etc, that they'd never have put that in their paper. Spot on!
