At school today, there were a bunch of different stands "educating people" about differing subjects, one was Islam. It said on the banner that it "Liberates" women. Next to it, there was a woman wearing a head piece that showed nothing but her eyes. What are some quotes that you know that show this is true or untrue.

Using the same Koran, you'll find 55 "untrue" instances concerning women here. Seems the person who made the banner must have the word liberation confused with incarceration.
True. But if you dare disagree with Islam it's hate speech.
Good link!
The following quote allows men to beat women. Not exactly liberating...

Hope this helps.

The Qur'an:

Qur'an (4:34) - "Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great."

And here is film by Hirsi Ali on Women and Islam called Submission. (the Producer, Van Gogh was murdered by an Islamic extremist for producing it).

Thanks for posting this. I am finishing up "Infidel", and was getting ready to look for this on YouTube.
Moving.
While I think the Quran is false, I would also like to point out that the Quran does not advocate the beating of women. That verse is about divorce and the true translation of the word "adribu" is "separate" and not "beat." I do not see the point in going through all the steps if the you are going to beat her.
Yeah, 'Religion of Peace' is a great website.

Islam liberates women? What, like Poseidon governs the sea and I'm going to hell for not believing in God?
They're probably insisting that women achieve spiritual liberation through self-sacrifice. Like flagellation but your husband does it for you. How easy is that?
Bunch of fucking gentlemen arn't they?
Just by sitting next to the stand with a full veil on she gives a clear indication of what liberation means to her. It means she must hide herself away from the gaze of men lest she be responsible for them raping her. Interesting new definition of of liberation I was not previously aware of ... You don't need quotes from the Koran, just ask her why she's wearing medieval clothing in the 21st century.
I would puke if this promotion of religious extremism was at my school.

Yeah, I've heard Muslims say this, how we exploit women as "sex figures" and this liberates women b/c then they are admired for their mind. This coming from the same people who throw acid at women for going to school!

If that was true I'd like to see how many women in Muslim countries are scientists or professors? Is being ashamed of having a physical existence the only way to be "liberated"? Why do men not have to be liberated from sexual objectification, too? All the burqa does is make women even more into their husband's property; "no one can see my woman's face!"

As for the sexual exploitation of women in the West (being married off as a teen isn't sexual exploitation?) you can think what you want about it, but at least women have a choice.
