If I have kids, I plan on teaching them about Jesus.
So I'm thinking that when I have kids, I would really like to teach them about Jesus, not as the Messiah or as the Son of God, but as a moral teacher who taught lessons that I cherish such as pacifism, charity, compassion, and love. Of course, I would probably not teach them to worship or pray to him(I'd have to discuss it with my other half), but I think that Jesus ranks up there when talking about virtuous figures for children to model themselves after.

My boys are only six; so, our discussions about religion are really simple. They like Greek mythology and Egyptian art; but, really do not like Christian theme stuff. You could blame me for their bias; but, their dislike of Jesus really stemmed from Christian art. I have a lot of museum books that we look through. They think the crucifixion art is disgusting.
Their reaction to baby Jesus art was a really perceptive. With art depicting Jesus and John, they kept asking: "Why are the little boys naked?" To them, Catholic art looks like kiddie porn.

I too always thought the Greek/Roman gods were far more interesting than bible stories. Ever so slightly more believable too. It at least felt to me (as a child) that the Greeks put a little more effort into explaining the *How.*

I don't like the Christian presentation of Bible stories. But, now that I understand Bible stories as the same type of mythology as Greek stories, I find them to be really fun.

Whomever he was, if he was, he was followed by any number of narcissistic and/or schizoaffective loonies claiming to speak (write) on his behalf.
One of my favorites:

That seeing they may see and not perceive, and hearing they may hear and not understand; lest at any time they shall be converted and their sins should be forgiven them." - Mark 4:11-12
It's a favorite of mine to toss out at the fundies who insist every word of the buybull is literal and inerrant. *Literally* Bible-Jesus is saying he is intentionally speaking in parables in the hopes we unwashed masses *won't* understand and won't be saved. The other option is that the passage is meant metaphorically, or a bible apologist will deconstruct the entire thing using a variety of arguments-from-authority in the hopes of derailing the original point. Either way, the every-word-is-simple-and-literal fundie argument loses steam.

Nietzsche would have found it ironic if he ever heard a religious person use the term "unwashed masses". They would've most likely been the targets of this label. Their failure to listen to reason, and their willingness to give attention to blind faith probably would've made him cringe.
