look this thread may look awful to some but it is a fact that all organized religion have made colonies in india except atheism.
this is really wired because all other organized religion or god people has nothing to give to humankind but atheism has many things to give to the world:
1] scientific outlook/thinking.
2] self respect: there is nobody to woo.
3] elimination of superstition.
4] make life meaningful.
there are many benefits of atheism. why such a beneficial thing is not spread india wide.
but how to spread atheism in india?
i thought of a strategy:
we should use the same tactics which organized religions use.
we will create an organization first. then our org. will provide daily necessary things to poor, take care of orphans only in the name of science not in the name of god. there we will provide world class education to kids, make them truly scientific thinker.
we will invade colleges and universities and target young mind to bring them on the path of science. we will provide them jobs in our organization.
any body who will renounce their god/religion to become atheist will get special privileges beside these things.
then we will go to media, buy time slots and air our atheist programme. we will regularly debunk so called religious fanatics.
we will lobby in the parliament to make a truly seculer society.
this way we can turn India into an atheist country.
but we need a lot of money for that. to get money we must make some industrialist atheist.
the benefit:
india is world's 2nd largest population second only to china. if we can turn at least 1 % of this population atheist, we will do a good job. our dream of a secular scientific minded world will come true.
what do you think?
ideas and thoughts are welcome.

If I was an Indian Atheist untouchable I would kill rich Indians, take all their money and fuck their wives unless provided with a good job, housing and social welfare by the state. Once I am rich in my own right I would end Internet censorship by paying bribes to the censors and end the space program by redirecting the money to the poor. Finally, I would instigate a population cull of about 50% without discriminating against anyone on the basis of race, religion, social class, sexuality or disability.

Your enthusiasm is well understood and respected too, but you will have to get near the reality to understand it. Arnab,'s enthusiasm for atheism is very laudable, but a hungry stomach can think of only of itself and nothing else.
The conditions of poverty in India have improved since we got our independance but much needs to be done yet. Poverty and lack of enough education is hindering intellectual growth. Atheism can not spread until these conditions improve. Our target for spread of atheis has to be the well educated and well fed middle and upper class. The strategy to do this has to be well planned. Indian atheism does needs a selfless leader now.
Permalink Reply by Dr. Terence Meaden on February 11, 2012 at 2:34am These are worthy aims, Arnab Banerjee.
Setting aside the first thoughts that it will be so difficult, a start should be made---especially to find a rich supporter and benefactor.
Follow, too, the practical work of Robert Bwambale in Uganda who has helped to found a humanist/atheist school in his country. Look up the name Kasese Humanist Primary School. A secondary school is planned next.

Believe me, that I turned to AN desiring to seek help for spreading atheism in India. I wanted to see if atheists form different parts of world could visit India to tell our friends in India how the world is changing very fast. Richard Dawkins came to India to attend the Jaipur literery meet but it did not a wee bit to oromote etheis in India. This is not good, we have to plan and use their influeence to benifit Indian atheism. Leadre like him and others will have to be made to realise why India can be and is, important to world atheism.
This also needs atheists to be sensitive to different thoughts. Such interaction will not only help to spread atheism but will permit better understanding thereafter also. As I see it here now, atheists here have to get out of their shells and have to understand that being atheist on a personal level does not end our responsibility. I do not say that I have become pessimistic now, We will need to do more effort.
I personally also believe that there are plenty of closeted atheists in India. They do not come out because the typical Indian attitude of unconcern.

Dr.Meaden has suggested a way. If that is not possible, then the only other way is our toil, not wishful thinking.

Google Removes Search, YouTube Results on Indian Court Order
The order follows a civil complaint filed by Mufti Aijaz Arshad Quasmi, an Indian activist who seeks the removal of videos and images that could be seen as offensive to Muslims, his lawyer Santosh Pandey said today.
The other companies named in the complaint -- Facebook Inc., Yahoo! Inc. and Microsoft Corp. -- have taken the position that they don’t have control over the content found objectionable, Pandey said.

Permalink Reply by MADHUKAR KULKARNI on February 15, 2012 at 4:54am Appeasing voters on any grounds is not Indian invention, it is happening everywhere. If we want democracy, we have to pay a price in many different ways. I for one would have a democracy even we have to pay such a price. Remember, people had to pay much much heavier price undre dictatorships. Arnab, what we people in India are going thriugh is a formative process, we either support it or simply watch it. No society in this world has changed without a long, long formative process. We have had our freedom barely 65 years ago and we have a billion people to reform. Youngsters would serve their cause, any cause, only if they are realists and work with the current to achieve their objectives. They will only experience frustration if they are impractical and unduely impatient.

Believe me, India is a secular country and a vast majority of people respect this ideal. What appears as muslim appeasement is not that but a democratic compulsion. It is not easy to understand India because it is a multicultural society, but please never do the mistake of comparing India with a muslim country. Muslims in those countries are fanatics. Most Indians, including most muslims in India are not fanatics, but fanatics, like communists, make a very large noise that compells listening.
