Atheist Nexus

The World’s Largest Coalition of Nontheists and Nontheist Communities!

Up and down the coast from BC to California I have left post-its directing the next reader to the bible's contradictions and atrocities.

I will also be writing to the owners/managers of these establishments, complaining that I do not appreciate x-rated, racist, misogynistic, genocidal, child abusing hate literature being impressed upon me.

Even better if this could be a conjoined effort.

I absolutely agree that the world needs "activism, role modeling, and educational efforts to push critical thinking". I also think exposing the bible for its content, of which many 'christians' are unaware, is part of it.
It has been a habit of mine in all my travels since I can remember to purchase porn mags and insert photos in every hotel/motel bible I've ever come across.
thats grassroots, sonnnn!!!
hey maybe I should put in a picture of a man gettting sodomized by another man and stick it into Leviticus.
Hmmm - not the best idea...wait, is it porn for men or women?
I think it is a great idea.  And, Holly, isn't all porn for men?
"This bible was placed here by a gideon." (Bill Hicks)

The evangelical organisation describes the gideon:
"Gideon was a man who was willing to do exactly what God wanted him to do, regardless of his own judgment as to the plans or results. Humility, faith, and obedience were his great elements of character. This is the standard that The Gideons International is trying to establish in all its members, each man to be ready to do God's will at any time, at any place, and in any way that the Holy Spirit leads." [source wikipedia search: GIDEON]

I'm not sure - but haven't they passed a law regarding bibles to be placed in hotel rooms?
either way, most hotels are inclined to accept them - as they have reached 100 years of handing them out...great.

according to the above article as well.....it seems like it's a random community of crazy bible people enthusiasts passing them around....that arent even connected to each other?! So - a community like athiest nexus im sure can randomly start leaving Anton Lavey's Satanic Bible?

especially if it isnt law. haha
:D Oh, that great.

I'd go for the more useful angle myself and put copies of Hagakure in.
Has anyone ever actually been converted by finding a bible in their hotel room drawer? I agree that America would be better with fewer bibles in it, but how big a deal is this really?
not sure...would make for an interesting study im sure...

Who even opens the hotel room drawer next to the bed anymore? Well maybe to take the pen and memo pad...complementary, right??

As long as the television has been included in the hotel room 'experience'...and now cable.....nobody reads ANYTHING in hotel rooms anymore....ha.  They normally have crappy reading lights anyway...

I like the idea of these post-its, however.  Cheeky.  Are they mass produced anywhere?

Seriously guys, waste of time. Even christains who look up the passages you direct them to will make excuses for their religion before they lose their faith. As for the porn in the bibles....that's hilarious!

mthoreau: Let's take it to the supreme court and get the other sacred texts put in the drawers too :P
