High Schooler Protests ‘Slut-Shaming’ Abstinence Assembly Despite Alleged Threats From Her Principal

This is outrageous... http://thinkprogress.org/health/2013/04/17/1883121/west-virginia-ab...

If that Principal threatened my daughter the ACLU would be the least of his worries.

Beyond ludicrous.  This kind of christian agenda in a public school should not be countenanced in the slightest measure.  I know I sound like a broken record as it comes to this, but it's time to call in the FFRF and turn 'em lose on these idiots!

Elizabeth Smart said in an interview today that one reason she did not attempt to run away from her captor was because of an abstinence class she had in school.  The teacher likened people who had pre-marital sex to a piece of used chewing gum that no one would want.  Elizabeth felt no one would want to have anything to do with her after being abused.

It is worth noting that Katelyn Campbell isn't alone.  A few years back, Connie Schultz reported in the Cleveland Plain Dealer of a Parma school board meeting which featured two high school students, who posited the need for sex education in their classrooms which went beyond abstinence!  I mean, the KIDS know they need more information!  If the parents and other adults in these kids' lives can't be bothered to give it to them in the school environment, the kids are going to do what they're going to do ... which is either have irresponsible and unprotected sex or MAYBE go on the internet to get the information they want and need!

It's past time these dumb-ass adults WOKE UP!

Amen. Oops.  I mean yeah, man!

For all the lies and damage from abstinence-based sex "education", I never thought of that horrible effect!!

It's past time these dumb-ass adults WOKE UP!

(And overcame their own conditioning and repression, for the kids' sake!)

A few years ago I heard a concise and empowering sexual ethic, that even those teachers and administrators might agree with if they weren't bent on promoting a narrow conservative Christian system:

  • Tell no lies;
  • Spread no diseases;
  • Conceive no children;  [*]
  • Break no hearts.

(Within that, there are many right answers! With many possible honest, ethical relationship styles, with or without marriage, with or without monogamy. And I add the asterisk because adults do sometimes thoughtfully and seriously decide to have children; it just shouldn't be a default.)
