God smites Jesus statue

The giant statue of Jesus along I-75 in Monroe, OH, known by the nicknames "Touchdown Jesus" and "Big Butter Jesus" (as made famous by the Haywood Banks song), burned to the ground Monday night after being struck by lightning.
Church members expect the statue to be resurrected in 3 days.

I love how some people seem genuinely surprised that a Jesus statue could be struck by lightning, just like ancient Greeks questioning why Zeus would hurl lightning at his own temples. Maybe an event like this will help some people take a little step toward critical thinking.

This must be from the alternate ending that was supposed to be release soon for the bible, you know... right before they nail him on the cross, he eats a nearby mushroom and grows 10 times his size, then he jumps into the nearby lagoon for a bath with the cross in his lap, meanwhile praising himself.

To me, it kind of looked like he was being sucked into the pond and reaching out hoping someone would save him.
Or the church built on the former locale of a Poseidon temple and just added the cross to make it look like their god instead.

This may seem a little bit off, but can some enterprising Atheist wait untill it gets back on its feet and put something on it that attracts lightening so it gets zapped again.

No need. It's a metal frame, taller than anything else in the immediate area, in a pond of water. If the church congregation has any Real Faith(tm), they'll continue to pooh-pooh the science and rebuild the statue as it was.

similar thing happened in Montreal last week, a (empty) church got struck by lightning. Heard it on the news, and I just had to chuckle at the whole idea of "acts of god" v "holy" constructs.

Well, I have designed +5 churches... I am sure that if an atheist designs a church, god will strike it down. Its only logical. :)
