Fleecing the Faithful for Fun and Funds
What crime combines billions in annual earnings, sneaky accounting, a lack of media coverage, and the good Lord himself? Religious fraud. Conning the faithful, it turns out, is a lucrative art.
Christian leaders alone stole more than $27 billion in 2009, according to one estimate. Such leaders steal more money than is spent annually on global religious missions. Narrowing it down even more, Utah, arguably the fraud capital of the United States, has a fraud industry “double the size” of its ski industry.
An article on the Business Pundit web site describe 15 frauds by religious “leaders” that have bilked millions of the faithful of billions of dollars selling snake oil and swamp land (all, of course, in the name of god).

When you think about it, much of organized religion is fraud. Bilking people for money is the ultimate form of fraud but pretending to know god`s will in small details is itself a form of fraud. And what about those scoundrel faith healers that James Randi has exposed? By its very nature(knowing the unknowable) organized religion is a hotbed of fraudulent words and deeds.

If it is seemingly ok for religious leaders to fleece their flocks would it also be ok if atheists sold some idiots some lies? I mean, they definitely do it and their people still go to church and cough up the money so the idiots must be comfortable with it. Does that make it ok?

I'm not sure one can be all right with anything before their perspective transcends the barrier of awareness. Hence, it's a non-point. Saving the saved from the saviour; that's on the menu... not communion wafers or collection-plate coins.

Religion was, is, and always will be a business with political interests. Religious organizations are far more insidious than just the obvious money that is bilked from their flocks into collection plates. Here are a few questions to ask about their political interests:
Why did abortion become such a big issue about the same time as President Johnson put in the tax exempt status restriction on churches, requiring that they not endorse candidates from the pulpit? It wasn't because of Roe V Wade a few years later. It was because abortion was an issue by which they could endorse anti-abortion candidates.
Why was abortion such a big issue for the Catholic Church in the Health Care debate? Could it be because so many hospitals are Catholic and they had an interest in how health care dollars were spent?
Why are religious people less inclined to support the legalization of marijuana? Could it be because so many drug and alcohol rehab programs are run by religious organizations?
Why is there so little interest in adding pre-school to our public school system? Could it be because many of the Head Start programs are run by religious organizations?
Why do churches so regularly attack the public school system? Do they want to scare parents into sending their kids to their schools? (Their desire for a voucher program is just too bloody obvious to mention.)
Why are our public universities so damned expensive and not adequately funded? Could it be because the religious schools don't want a cheap public alternative?
Why don't we hear the conservatives complaining so much about foreign aid anymore? Could it be because Bush found a way to funnel money into missionary programs?
We have much bigger problems with the separation between church and state than just “god” in the pledge of allegiance. “God” on our money is only symbolic of their infiltration into our government.

And many of the so called "grassroots organizations" with their 501c status are AstroTurf creations of the aforementioned bloodsuckers - like the teapublicans, financed and maintain with the money of the Koch brothers and their slimy minions.
