Year of the Cat - Al Stewart
Time Passages - Al Stewart
Aja - Steely Dan
Al Stewart's one of those underrated singer-songwriters. But both his best-selling albums have some really melodic tunes on them, especially the title cuts. And some of his historic-rock tunes are pretty good too.
Aja was, I think, one of the first albums to combine both jazz and rock influences. Tom Scott's sax playing on the title cut is one of the best pieces I've ever heard. And the entire album has, from top to bottom, no bad songs at all - you get involved just listening to the music.
