Evangelist Tony Alamo found guilty on ten counts of- you guessed it- sex charges.

Jurors have found Tony Alamo guilty on all 10 counts of child-sex charges. Each count carries a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing will take place in six to eight weeks. Former church members are overjoyed. No current church members or anyone who testified on his behalf, including Sharon Alamo, have commented.
Jurors arrived at the Texarkana federal courthouse at 8:30 a.m. Friday and reached their verdict at about 10:45 a.m. They spent 8 1/2 hours discussing the 10-count federal indictment against the 74-year-old Alamo on Thursday.
Jurors paused twice to ask questions of the judge. The court won't say what they were about. Alamo's attorneys said it was about clarification of the Mann Act.
Prosecutors said Alamo took five underage girls across state lines for sex as far back as 1994. They said one was as young as 9 and was "married" to the evangelist. (See related link for release from Justice Department)
Defense attorneys say the girls traveled on legitimate business for Alamo's ministry, which espouses an apocalyptic form of Christianity.

I find it hard to believe how a person like this could have had such importance and success, with people following him and giving their daughters away. He has been know to have problems for quite a long times, problems that include tax evasion and child pornography. How could a person like this could still be running free?

Kind of sad to think that's the only thing it takes for someone to have such power over people. Makes you lose faith in humanity.

It just means that we need more no-sex suicide cults. The people who are apt to follow groups and to respond that damn well to charisma will not reproduce (cult rules) and will definitely not reproduce and will not pollute the rest of the population with their failtastic traits (suicide).
