Apparently you can't do polls on here.... but

Do any of you think that Jesus actually existed? What do category do you fall into?

A. Believed he existed, claims are false

B. Believed he existed, claims are exaggerated

C. Don't believe he existed

D. Believe he existed, claims are true (sorry had to leave the idiot category open)

Jennifer since you switched from A to C this questionair was worthwhile afterall.
B. I think there is a good deal of evidence that a Jewish Rabbi fitting the Biblical accounts may have existed. That's it. He wasn't magic. He wasn't a god. He was just a guy trying to do his schtick in the desert and maybe shake up the prevailing dogma of the time.

Constantine, a power hungry man, decreed Christ to be a god with the Nicene Creed.

So now we have the magical sky daddy. Christianity stole most of it's rituals and holidays from Constantine's old religion.

So if Jesus ever existed, he was just a dude hanging out with other dudes in the desert.
C. I don't think he existed and if he did, the claims regarding his abilities are definitely false.
At first, I thought Jesus might have been a real person and the claims were exaggerated. But, as I have researched claims for documentation of his reality, I have concluded that the Biblical Jesus is pure fiction. NOTHING that is claimed of him in the Bible ever happened.

C. Don't believe he existed.
I'm of the B. mind set. I believe its possible he existed, not that he actually did, or that someone like him existed, in which the stories were based on, or maybe several people existed that to the masses did things that were 'unbelievable' and later exaggerated. Eventually they morphed into the Jesus Story and were written down.
A, most likely. If B is true then Jesus was just an asshole. ('Jesus that man is crazy!' // 'Have no fear, I'll send those pigs off a cliff!')

Also, is too late to add:
G. I don't care.

Whether it's proved beyond doubt that he did or did not exist, I still wouldn't stone adulterers to death and I would still help people who are trouble. Morality and ethics are independent of the existence condition of a man I just don't care about.
Check out Jesus Never Existed at jesusneverexisted.com. It's a pretty well researched web site. Based on that and other things I've read St. Paul's Jesus is made up out of whole cloth.
I'd have to go with A.I believe that he may have existed as any man would exist. He wasn't no son of a god nor could he do all these magical things which the bible claims.
Please let me know the results of this skewed poll.

How about (E) I think he existed as a myth?

(F) There have been a lot of wars over trying to convert people into believing that Jesus was a real person?

Chris
C. Legend not human
I really don't understand the point of this question, because whether he did or did not exists, the greater question is what he represents.

It's like arguing over the existence of Isis or Thor...

If Jesus existed does than give any greater credence to the idea that he was the son of God?

Since I don't believe in God then why would I care if Jesus (the person) existed?

And if you want to float the idea that he was real and really cool, but his true message was hijacked by early Christian leaders... Again, this whole issue means nothing, because you have to get into the the whole idea of a omnipotent force that has, can and/or does intervene in our lives...

Why do so called atheist seem so obsessed with debate over something as absurd as believing in ghosts, the Easter Bunny or Voodoo...
"I really don't understand the point of this question, because whether he did or did not exists, the greater question is what he represents."

Thanks.

My first funeral as an atheist

Posted by Two Cult Survivor on May 21, 2013 at 11:30am 0 Comments

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.

I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).

THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…

Death of a family member

Posted by Larry Taylor on May 20, 2013 at 8:15pm 7 Comments

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!

Posted by Christy Stewart on May 20, 2013 at 2:17pm 6 Comments

This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.

I work in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors who admit patients are general MDs. (Psychiatrists see patients after admission) Yesterday evening we received several calls from irate parents. A new doctor who was doing admissions yesterday actually…

anti-atheist rant from an Orthodox Mormon part 2

What do you think of this,

Nathan Young,

No Jason Torpy it is you that should be banned for promoting atheism, a belief that has no foundation in reality and zero proof behind it.  The letter was a mockery of your atheist beliefs.  I request to the board here that they remove Jason for his unverifiable beliefs in atheism for which he has no proof other than his arrogance.  The letter was a mockery of atheism.  Atheism is stupid and it should be mocked and it…
