There are those who believe people who point out problems facing USA and indeed the world are paranoid. Some think USA’s decline is the mother of all paranoia. We delude ourselves when we say our nation is bound together by common values. There exists a measurable split between those who believe the role of government is to protect property and another who believe government’s role is to protect people. It is like pro-choice vs. anti-choice. There is no way to reconcile these two points of view. Thus, compromise.
Some put faith in our founding documents of the Declaration of Independence, Constitutions of the USA, and the Bill of Rights. Let us not forget these documents were written and policies created that supported slavery and did not give women power of the vote, and Native peoples had no protection from murder, starvation, and destruction of their culture. These documents live. They change over time. To go back to the original documents written by our founders means regression to a value system not acceptable to me.
Many believe each individual human being has certain inalienable rights … you know the drill. Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of happiness. Well, they simply deny reality. Not all babies born here have enough food, drinkable water, shelter, protection, education, medical care they need to become productive, participatory human beings. What does it cost to provide these basics for each citizen? What does it cost to deny them?
I disagree with those who delude, regress, and deny reality. I can demonstrate what I claim by a few simple graphs that are imbedded in this article.
