Paul Verhoeven, whose film credits include Showgirls, Robocop, and Total Recall, among others, has been given financial backing to direct a new film about Jesus, which discounts all of the miracles about Jesus and, instead, portrays him as a radical prophet who tried to perform exorcisms and never envisioned himself as a personal savior.
