I removed myself from an Atheist group on Facebook because my bosses are on FB and I didn't know if it would effect my career. It most likely would since they are christian.

I just wanted to confess this because I feel like such a "female reproductive organ".

If I say 20 hail FSM will I be redeemed for my injustice?

You make a very good point.
That was the wrong choice of words. I should have put that I am almost certain that there would be negative repercussions from past experiences. Just because they are christian doesn't mean that they will display bigotry towards Atheists. I will say that I would be hard pressed to find one were I live though.

There is no shame in anonymity - especially as we are continually reminded we are the most hated minority on the planet. In fact, hiding your identity is entirely sensible, unless you actually have reason to have a public atheist face. A word of advice - never place faith in any social networks' privacy settings. There is no privacy. There is nothing more infuriating than people that turn around yell at folks like Brother Richard when their details leak - and the real responsibility lies with their own irresponsibility.

Remember this clearly, because your life may depend on it -

Anything you post anywhere online is no longer yours. The djinni is out of the bottle. It will get picked up by search engines and replicated through the cloud forevermore. There is no possible way to thoroughly delete anything once this occurs. If your personal details are out there, there they will stay.

On a brighter note, welcome to our little corner of the world.

This is my desktops wallpaper now.
I learned something new. They actual named that after Rocky and Bullwinkle?
@Nate: That's fine. If you know where your data is. Google freely say they have no way of knowing if something has been permanently deleted from their entire network. It could get regurgitated anywhere, any time. Usually when you least want it to. My point is that using personally identifiable information is a commitment - you have to assume the worst. Not doing so is naive. It's a yes/no proposition. Can you deal with being a public atheist or not ? I am sick of the sob stories - it is a reality EVERYONE has to understand. Yelling at people like BR after the fact is pointless.
Heh, your blunt is my realistic. There have been plenty of people to date that have cried here when they discover that the "privacy" settings ensure no such thing when they go posting in public. And there will be plenty more in the future. This is not BR's fault - but he is the one that gets yelled at. It's like sticking a firecracker up your butt and then crying it doesn't say you shouldn't stick it up your butt.
You feel like an ovary?
A uterus if you must know.
I was pretty sure a Uterus is a muscle.
The uterus (Latin word for womb) is a major female hormone-responsive reproductive sex organ

I should have said I felt like a dick.
Behaving in such a way only allows these people to get away with their bullying tactics, and people saying 'oh we are a hated minority' is neither useful or true.
In normal countries you would be able to take any employer to court if they started to make life difficult because you are an atheist
On FB, I'm on the grouplist "Foundation Beyond Belief" and my info lists religious view as See: Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. I have a couple of coworkers on my friends list... no one who could cause damage to my career. But I kinda like throwing those nuggets of information out there. The only response I've ever seen is a former classmate who simply sent a message "Ramen!"

I really enjoyed it the other day when a catholic coworker looked at the book I was reading on break. "The God Delusion??" she said out loud in perceived judgement. I didn't have a good response ready so I said it was a book about how religion forcefully manipulates how our government behaves." To be honest I was only a hundred pages in, this is my first read. But even that response befuddled her and she left quickly.

I am quickly learning to be proud of my views. You have just as much right to state your views as they have stating theirs. As for them causing damage at work...keep track of anything they say that might be against equal opportunity employment regulations.
