just had this thought~ the next time you are told this is a Christian nation, founded on christian principles, reply

 

" well, if that is the case, that would make this a White nation as well."

 

See if people will start saying that now; the point is, the argument that they use rests on parameters that would make this being a rich, white, slave owning nation as well.  due to the current climate of political correctness, I doubt anyone would ever say that publicly~ this would be a good way to force the hand.

I can't stand that bull crap argument.  We were NOT founded on christian principles.  The founding fathers went out of their way to ensure that the state did not get in the business of faith.  So much so, they put it in the first amendment.

thats my point.  when people say we are a christian nation they are cherry picking the things that we originally were.  Sure, the country had some foundation in christianity, like the rest of the modern world.  we were also founded on slavery, white supremacy, and other defunct ideas.  The real founders of this nation were puritans (pre founding fathers) who's views are shared by very few people nowadays, but you never hear "this is a puritan nation."  the truth is the constitution supports christianity no more than it decries slavery or the persecution/subjugation of minorities.  if they want to return this country to its roots, really, i want to hear them advocate an agrarian based economy with a workforce that is mostly slaves.  if they advocate that, then I'll say "you're right, thats the foundation of this country~ now go to hell."

We are always told that we need to understand the context of X (X being the bible, koran, etc). Well, people who insist we are a Christian nation should apply that to themselves and read them all and re-assess that opinion.

Then go read Franklin's, Jefferson's, Paine's, and Madison's thoughts on the topic.

I moved to SC from the North three years ago.  I wouldn't even try to change anyone's mind.  These people down here aren't above violence and property damage to settle a philosophical argument.

I would be less than surprised if their response to that argument would just be a shrug or a nod of the head. Only when debating non-caucasian and liberal theists would this be useful, and the latter wouldn't give you that opening, anyway. My curiosity would be if they could name a theocracy that's not in a third world state. And a city country like the Vatican, sitting upon the bloody fortunes they ransacked, doesn't freakin' count.

Okay, a few notes:
1) There is no such thing as 'America'. Despite lifestyle similarities, these people have no cultural connexion, no shared history, no political unity. One reason I am a radical decentralist, because the only thing Americans have in common is a bloated central government. So America is not a 'nation', Christian or otherwise, it is an Empire.

2) Who cares what the fuck old dead white men thought? I don't give a damn about the Constitution, most of classical liberalism is mystical garbage just as nonsensical as Christianity and, for that matter, so is the mainstream political landscape. Was 'America' founded as a 'Christian' nation? I couldn't give a damn. What matters is the truth, not some mindless reverence for what superstitious oligarchs thought.

Based on your picture there, you should certainly care about the constitution.  Our government would love nothing more then to disarm the populace, but the CONSTITUTION does not allow them to do so.  It is the social contract we have with our government and is what is supposed to guarantee us the most freedom as citizens anywhere in the world.  I care about what our founding fathers thought as well.  They were very smart people way ahead of their time and are the people responsible for this nation, now an empire.  We've lost our way with the constitution, and it's why we're in the hot mess we are in right now.
