I believe that one of the most pernicious teachings of the New Testament is the one about the unforgivable sin of blaspheming the Holy Spirit. When I was a child, a man on my street was hospitalized in a psychiatric facility because he was convinced that he had committed the unpardonable sin and was destined for hell. I don’t know many details about his case, but I am confident that many others have had similar experiences.
I intend to write a blog article on this pernicious teaching and I am looking for information, testimonials, and other kinds of input from others about it. For example, what do you believe blaspheming the Holy Spirit is exactly (the ambiguity about its meaning has been a source of pain for many who believe they have done it). If you were once a Christian, did you ever think you committed it and, if so, what did you experience as a consequence? Do you know anyone who believed they committed it and what was the consequence for them? Do you know of any studies about it (links)? Can you point me to good intelligent discussions about it, etc? Thanks.
