Black men's facial hair

Why is it that black men has to shave off all of his facial hair, and the hair on top of his head to get a job in most segments of the American job market, especially in the film industry? Yet, most of the white men I see out there, always try to stick their hair up in the air with moose, to imitate black people's beautiful nappy hair. Just a thought, any takers?

PS. I do have more qustions along racial lines, but I will get to them later. Religion sucks!!!

When you refer to black men in the “film industry” are you referring to on-camera talent? Or crew? I happen to work with some black men in the television industry, behind the camera, and can report to you that their appearances vary widely. I’m just assuming this is because they are different people, with different personal styles. Some are clean-shaven and some have beards. Some have hair, some are bald. Some are bald with beards, some have hair and are clean shaven. Some have beards and hair, some are bald on both face and head. I really think it is a personal choice. The reasons for their personal choices, I really can’t say. (Although some of the bald ones may chose that look because of a premature receding hair line- Sorry guys!)

Anyway, I just thought I’d comment from a production perspective and report to you what is going on in my little world of television in LA.

As far as understanding what it’s like to be a minority and adapt to the mainstream, I’m a homo. I’m lucky enough to live in a very liberal and tolerant city. However, millions of other homos have to change the way they live their lives too in order to be accepted in the workplace, their small town or even in their family.

I know what you mean. Now let me ask you this Zeeman: Do you think that If Mechelle Obama was to wear her nappy hair natural and well groomed, or with some nice corn rows, that America would be down wid that? I think not. Or, if her husband barak was to let his natural nappy hair grow into a nice little afro, or just grow it out to show the natural nappy texture of his hair, just like Kennedy, Lincoln, Clinton, Regan, Carter and so many more of the white American Presidents who used to wear their hair long, that America would be down wid dat? I think not.

Black people are always made to feel that their nappy hair is inferior to white people's hair, so they have to do something with it like hiding it under a turban, or straighten it with petro products, which is unhealthy for their system over time.

Then again, you have to hang and drag this fifty pound christian cross around your neck so that white people can feel comfortable being around you as this obedient owned negro slave boy or girl. There is so much more that I could add to this topic from a personal stand point and otherwise but I will wait for more imput. All I know is that denial won't cut it, but I'm prepeared for it. A can of worms to deal with.
