Hmmm...you know that's an excellent idea!  It's never occurred to me that we should have an anthem! I'm going to start brainstorming right now!

There's a fabulous song by Steve Martin. It's called "Atheists Ain't Got No Songs," and it's on his recently released bluegrass album. It doesn't qualify as an atheist anthem, but it does define the problem.

During the Hagar era, Van Halen had a song on 3 consecutive albums that kind of took a shot at organized religion.  The first was "Best of Both Worlds", the second was "Mine All Mine" off OU812, and the third was "Judgement Day" off For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge.

I can't help but notice all the nominees here, worthy tho they be, are original contemporary songs rather than anthems as such. For those, you have to go back to the old-time hymns and tweak 'em a bit. Here's one of the best loved. You know how it goes.
