Well, they do have a violent past. In the end, much of religion is just an excuse for violence and killing those who don't conform. What are you doing opening your doors to Mormons, anyway? Open your doors to hookers instead, a much more noble endeavor.

"The Mountain Meadows Massacre was the killing of roughly 120 emigrants who were passing through Southern Utah in September 1857. The massacre occurred on September 11, 1857. The emigrants--men, women, and children--were traveling from Arkansas to California, part of the Baker-Fancher wagon train. They were killed by a group of Mormons with the help of local Paiute Indians."

And what's still sad is the only ones spared were a few children under 6, who have descendants now that are still heavily indoctrinated in the Mormon church.

Just what I was thinking of. I'm pretty sure I saw a documentary on it a long time ago. I was brought up a Jehovah's Witness, and as much as I hate that I'm grateful I wasn't brought up Mormon.

My dad is secretly Agnostic/Atheist. My mom is very very Mormon through and my grandfather is very very very very very Mormon.

I have it somewhat similar. My mother might as well make her own religion. She claims to be a Jehovah's Witness still, but she's a radical according to standard JW's. My father claims/tries to be devout, but he's a complete hypocrite. My grandparents from my mothers side and indeed most of my mothers family are very devout JW's with a history of Catholicism. Frankly, it's all a mess.

"The Mountain Meadows massacre was a mass slaughter of the Fancher-Baker emigrant wagon train at Mountain Meadows, Utah Territory, by a local Mormon militia and members of the Paiute Native American tribe on September 11, 1857. It began as an attack, quickly turned into a siege, and eventually culminated in the murder of the unarmed emigrants after their surrender. All of the party except for seventeen children under eight years old—about 120 men, women, and children—were killed. [1] After the massacre, the corpses of the victims were left decomposing for two years on the open plain, [2] the surviving children were distributed to local Mormon families, and many of the victims' possessions were auctioned off at the Latter-day Saint Cedar City tithing office.[3]

The Arkansas emigrants were passing through the Utah Territory at a tense time in the Utah War when 2,500 troops sent by President Buchanan were approaching with orders to restore US authority in the territory. Mormon leaders had been mustering militia and making defiant speeches stating their determination to mount a defense. [4] The emigrants stopped to rest and regroup their approximately 800 head of cattle at Mountain Meadows, a valley within the Iron County Military District of the Nauvoo Legion (the popular designation for the Mormon militia of the Utah Territory). I find the Mormon practice of baptising dead people pretty interesting. Apparently there were some pretty peeved Jews about the place when it was discovered Mormons had been baptising Holocaust victims.

"a little odd at times"?- they are a bunch of fucking freaks from everything I've heard. They are just as screwed up as those fuckers crashing planes into buildings.

I know of this because I saw the movie on it. Really quite horrific, but I can't remember the title. Good movie though. Wasn't very flattering to Jw's.

Didn't the Mormons also claim that they were persecuted b/c other groups got sick of their trying to kill non-Mormons?
