Wow Sandi!  How awful to have to listen to someone spew that and how awful there are so many ignouramousus (sp?) who do say stuff like that.  Good for you for not giving that creep a dime!~ Melinda

Sandi, the good news is you know what he thinks and you can boycott his business, I hope. Even do a little community building with others who disagree with his racist values. Geez, I wish you had a recording of that statement and could play it outside his store as customers go by ... I am still a Saul Alinsky kind of resistor.

I believe the anyone but Obama folks are 100% racist. However, I may have been an "anyone but Bush" person during 2 election cycles so perhaps I'm wrong (but I'm not). 

I took my mother to a garage sale yesterday in my town which is a pocket of red in a relatively blue area.  As we walked up I heard the owner telling someone that he didn't care but we had to get this black guy out of the white house.  I gave dagger eyes and left immediately. We have an Obama sign in our window and one neighbor told us we were  brave.  A coworker recently defended flying a confederate flag to me (not knowing I'm 1/4 African American or maybe he knew and didn't care) and my son's 1/2 black girlfriend is  harassed on a regular basis.  I may need to move. Post-racial society?  No.

He never claimed to be progressive.  I'm a pragmatist, the rich aren't going to roll over and the perfect is the enemy of the good.

You are not wrong.  I do hope the demographic is changing.  There are many who are working for change.  We just have to wait for more Neanderthals to head for Valhalla.

There are many good people here Sentient, pardon my rant. If I move it will be due to the weather and not the people.  It is a small minority that is like that but they are indeed loud and obnoxious.

We drove past the store today, thankfully the sign isn't up but a huge jesus sign is now posted out the front right on the road.

I think the whole race thing depends on the individual. I don't think Obama is the greatest president but look at the alternatives. The entire GOP is full of religious nut jobs and corporate whores (Yes, that includes Ron Paul). Unfortunately we don't have much of a choice. There is only bad and worse. Obama is better than the alternative but not by much and race has nothing to do with it. He panders to corporate interests almost as bad as the rest of them. We will never be truly free in the US until we have an efficient system of referendum where laws like NDAA 2012 and The Federal Trespass Bill can be squashed by the people. Very few politicians look out for our best interests on any level anymore. They only care about giving more to those with money and power because they can secure an extremely decadent retirement that way.

Just think about this for a second:  Did you ever see anyone arrested wearing a Bush T-shirt; or for you older guys, an Eisenhower, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, or even Nixon, or Bob Dole shirt.??   There MUST be a message here, but I can't quite grasp it...    Maybe you can help me out.     And don't forget.....                    In November 2012, we can make.........a 'real' change!!

i called her on the racist email and she said "what?  how is that racist?"  in all fairness, i do not believe my mother to be racist.  the fact that she cannot see it is indicitive of the problem.
