Alabama’s chief justice: Buddha didn’t create us so First Amendment only protects Christians

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/05/02/alabamas-chief-justice-buddha...

Speaking at the Pastor for Life Luncheon, which was sponsored by Pro-Life Mississippi, Chief Justice Roy Moore of the Alabama Supreme Court declared that the First Amendment only applies to Christians because “Buddha didn’t create us, Mohammed didn’t create us, it was the God of the Holy Scriptures” who created us.

“They didn’t bring the Koran over on the pilgrim ship,” he continued. “Let’s get real, let’s go back and learn our history. Let’s stop playing games.”

He then noted that he loves talking to lawyers, because he is a lawyer who went to “a secular law school,” so he knows that “in the law, [talking about God] just isn’t politically correct.” He claimed that this is why America has “lost its way,” and that he would be publishing a pamphlet “this week, maybe next” that contained copies of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, thereby proving that all the people “who found this nation — black, white, all people, all religions, all faiths” knew that America was “about God.”

Chief Justice Moore later defined “life” via Blackstone’s Law — a book that American lawyers have “sadly forgotten” — as beginning when “the baby kicks.” “Today,” he said, “our courts say it’s not alive ’til the head comes out.”

“Now,” he continued, “if technology’s supposed to increase our knowledge, how did we become so stupid?” Discussing Thomas Jefferson’s use of “life” in the Declaration of Independence, he said that “when [Jefferson] put ‘life’ in there, it was in the womb — we know it begins at conception. Why aren’t we going the right way instead of the wrong way?”

He later said that “you can’t be happy unless you follow God’s law, and if you follow God’s law, you can’t help but be happy.”

“It’s all about God,” he continued. “We’ve made ‘life’ a decision taken by man,” he said, and “taken ‘liberty,’ and converted it to ‘licentiousness. We’ve taken ‘pursuit of happiness,’ and reduced it to materialism.”

How timely this thread is in lieu of the Monday 04.05.2014 SCOTUS decision stating that prayers to commence small government meetings is Constitutional. The march of the neo-liberal fascist agenda continues.

What is Neo-liberal about it?

This man is a real idiot!

I read something else the other day about a woman who claimed she was christian and she believed in standing her ground. What the hell is this facination with Jesus and guns?

neoliberalism, n.

Henry A. Giroux: Can Democratic Education Survive in a Neoliberal S...

"Public education is under assault by a host of religious, economic, ideological and political fundamentalists. The most serious attack is being waged by advocates of neoliberalism, whose reform efforts focus narrowly on high-stakes testing, traditional texts and memorization drills. At the heart of this approach is an aggressive attempt to disinvest in public schools, replace them with charter schools, and remove state and federal governments completely from public education in order to allow education to be organized and administered by market-driven forces.[1] Schools would “become simply another corporate asset bundled in credit default swaps,” valuable for their rate of exchange and trade value on the open market.[2] It would be an understatement to suggest that there is something very wrong with American public education. For a start, this counter-revolution is giving rise to punitive evaluation schemes, harsh disciplinary measures, and the ongoing deskilling of many teachers that together are reducing many excellent educators to the debased status of technicians and security personnel."

Thanks for providing the tie between theocracy and neoliberalism :-)
neoliberalism is a term to describe an economic belief system that extols the virtues of free markets, laissez-faire, and the privatization of the public space.

What this happens to do with statements of a theocratic judge in Alabama or yesterdays Supreme Court decision (New York Times 05/05 2014) "to begin its town hall meetings with a sectarian prayer nearly always from a Christian 'chaplain of the month.' ” is that these are clear examples of the ultimate prize.

The oligarchy that it's about to take power in America actually melds neoliberalism, theocracy and oligarchy into a blend, that for lack of a better term, I would describe as fascism 2.0. In effect, it is a nexus.

We are in times where a steady and unrelenting drive that employs the corruption of financial markets, the courts, government at state and federal level and the cynical use of media by the 1% and their quisling allies.

These fascists embrace all the ideologies that are an anathema to free thinkers, to those who simply seek a decent level of existence.

They project onto the 99% that we are irresponsible freeloaders as they use their vast wealth to buy politicians that hand them entitlements and corporate welfare on a vast and unprecedented scale.

It is a bit naïve of atheists to focus solely on religion as essentially a means to force the idea of Jesus or Christianity upon us free thinkers. These theocrats are also hugely wealthy. They vacuum billions from ignorant fearful bigoted followers who want a diet of magic and miracles to bring them wealth, to cure their ills, to tell them what to think. They also hold violent contempt

Author Max Blumenthal in his book 'Republican Gomorrah'lays out in exquisite detail the growth and process by which theology in the United States has come to a play and ever more important role in determining domestic and foreign policy of the nation.

Jeff Sharlet author of
"The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power" also details the Subversive nature of this group to undermine the United States to realize their vision of an America ruled by elite fundamentalist. Their embrace of brutal mass murdering dictators is terrifying in the absence of any sense of basic morality.
