Thanks to my MIL, I'm on the American Families Association mailing list, which helps me stay in the loop of religious hate.

Tonight I got an "action alert" asking me to send an email to Burger King protesting their support of the gay lifestyle with their rainbow-colored Whopper wrappers. So I'm asking you guys to help mitigate the hate:

1) Click on the link: http://mail.aol.com/38629-111/aol-6/en-us/mail/DisplayMessage.aspx?...

2) Copy/paste this modified email into the body of the letter:

Just a note to say "Great job!" for coming up with the "Proud Whopper" in San Francisco.

You are probably getting loads of hate mail from christians, but your celebration of cross-dressers and homosexuality is a nice gesture. It's nice to see them getting such public support. I have many friends who are gay, and it's heartbreaking how much hate they must endure.

Don't worry about losing market share- the haters already eat at Chick-Fil-A anyway.

3) Use a fake email address etc. in the required fields for the signature.

4) See if you can get a few others to participate. The more WE can send in, the better we can water down the hatred.

Initially founded as the National Federation for Decency, the American Family Association (AFA) originally focused on what it considered indecent television programming and pornography. The AFA says it promotes "traditional moral values" in media. A large part of that work involves "combating the homosexual agenda" through various means, including publicizing companies that have pro-gay policies and organizing boycotts against them. The AFA has a variety of outlets to disseminate its message, including the American Family Radio Network, its online One News Now and the monthly AFA Journal. In early 2011, the AFA claimed more than 2 million online supporters and 180,000 subscribers to its Journal.

Thanks for sharing that email action from a SPLC-certified hate group.

That link isn't working for me.

In any case, I'd suggest contacting Burger King directly at mediainquiries@whopper.com or via bk.com or (if you have the patience during business hours) 1-866-394-2493.

(That way the haters don't get to count you as yet another "supporter"; and it's more likely that someone will actually read and count your message if it doesn't look like yet another petition-site "clicktivism" email.)

Hmmm, I wonder. I do think they read through them- well, the FFRF reads through THEIR hate mail, so who knows.

Maybe it would help to change the subject line? I don't know how they receive these, and don't see why they wouldn't be able to tell the difference b/w supportive and hate mail.

In any case, it's interesting to see what's getting their panties in a bunch, and I can now ask my MIL how she can talk about supporting gay people while she supports this crap.

All the link wants me t do is sign into AOL. No can do coz I don't have AOL.
