What do you think about this song? Pro religion or Sleight of hand mockery?

I've been a Crash Test Dummies fan for awhile, and I've always loved the song "God Shuffled his feet". I've always taken the song as intended to take a stab at religion, especially when you watch the video, but I ran across some posts the other day written by Christians stating the exact opposite. Others songs and videos like "Ballad of Peter Pumpkin head" make me think otherwise as well.

What do you guys think?

I think the imagery in the video suggests a subtle stab (god being a puppet or machine of sorts) but based on the lyrics alone I don't really see it leaning one way or the other. I'm curious as to what the christian spin on it was.

As a public service, here are the lyrics:

"God Shuffled His Feet"

After seven days
He was quite tired so God said:
"Let there be a day
Just for picnics, with wine and bread"
He gathered up some people he had made
Created blankets and laid back in the shade

The people sipped their wine
And what with God there, they asked him questions
Like: do you have to eat
Or get your hair cut in heaven?
And if your eye got poked out in this life
Would it be waiting up in heaven with your wife?

God shuffled his feet and glanced around at them;
The people cleared their throats and stared right back at him

So he said:"Once there was a boy
Who woke up with blue hair
To him it was a joy
Until he ran out into the warm air
He thought of how his friends would come to see;
And would they laugh, or had he got some strange disease?

God shuffled his feet and glanced around at them;
The people cleared their throats and stared right back at him

The people sat waiting
Out on their blankets in the garden
But God said nothing
So someone asked him: "I beg your pardon:
I'm not quite clear about what you just spoke
Was that a parable, or a very subtle joke?"

God shuffled his feet and glanced around at them;
The people cleared their throats and stared right back at him
Here are a few comments I've seen:

"This song is charming. I like how God is a whimsical character here, giving a knowing wink to his creation while saying "I'm just not going to let you know everything".

"I think it's about seizing Gods love without questioning his glory, existence or the true nature of his being. After all didn't bible say we're supposed to be like children in our believe in christ."

I like the song regardless, I was just curious about what someone else thought about it.
Judging from the lyrics I would think they are trying to show more of a deistic god. One that simply sets the universe in motion and steps back. If you notice in the song god shuffles his feet and never speaks to the people.
