Workers' Religious Freedom vs. Patients' Rights

Treating the Pill as Abortion,Draft Regulation Stirs Debate

Imagine going to your local drug store and the pharmacist tells you that they will not fill your prescription for birth control pills because it violates their religious beliefs. What about a cashier that will not scan your condoms at the checkout? Both of these have already happened numerous times with the invocation of religious nonsense.

So Bush and the religious right are at it again. This time they are trying to protect these health care workers who refuse to provide/sell contraceptives for religious reasons. They are trying to place condoms and 'the pill' in the same category as abortion.

WTF?

Poor little sperm. The blasphemy!

“deny federal funding to any hospital, clinic, health plan or other entity that does not accommodate employees who want to opt out of participating in care that runs counter to their personal convictions”

Oh, it applies to ANY personal convictions? Great, so if a pharmacist is anti- Diabetic, they can refuse to fill out insulin prescriptions? I see various problems with this move.
I think we need to kidnap their babies and bring them to good atheist homes.
It's about time that ALL religious laws were banished from our government.

ANY laws that are based on religious conviction ought to be removed, unless it can be demonstrated good, sound _secular_ reasons why the law ought to be retained.

This is just one more intrusion of religious law-in-the-making, against the clear separation of church clause in the constitution.

The government should not be protecting those workers-- do we not protect against religious discrimination? For that IS what a pharmacist is doing, discriminating against someone who does not believe contraceptions are wrong.

Apparently not under W, we don't....

Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film video

Posted by Debra Stevenson on May 21, 2013 at 2:37pm 0 Comments

There is a video of the Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film.  The man isn't demon possessed, there are likely no 'real' demons.  He's just delusional and doesn't want to accept personal responsiblity for his own behavior for his own dysfunctional life.

Do you support 'traditional' marriage, vot now ad

There is an ad that reads ' Do you support 'traditional' marriage? Vote Now"!  .

No, I don't support 'traditional' marriage because there is no such thing. I support heterosexual and same-sex couples marry each other legally , yes.  'Traditional' marriage promoters largely do not believe that heterosexual women are co-equal to their husbands.  Their only purpose in 'traditional' marriage is to sexually satisfy their husbands if they can and raise children and do all…

i've got no problem with everyone saying "merry christmas" on christmas day.  however, they've turned it into an entire holiday season where it lasts a month or more.  in those situations it should be perfectly acceptable to say "happy holidays" or call it a…

My first funeral as an atheist

Posted by Two Cult Survivor on May 21, 2013 at 11:30am 0 Comments

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.

I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).

THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…
