Dan Barker is an international speaker and prominent atheist activist who left Christianity in 1984 after 19 years as an evangelical preacher. He is the current co-president with his wife Annie Laurie Gaylor of the Freedom from Religion Foundation (FFRF, http://www.ffrf.org). Ms. Laurie Gaylor will also attend the event. The FFRF is an American freethought organization that promotes the separation of church and state. It is the largest freethought association in North American. Mr. Barker, a composer and musician, is also the author of Losing Faith in Faith: From Preacher to Atheist, and Godless: How an Evangelical Preacher Become One of America’s Leading Atheists, and has written numerous articles for Freethought Today, America's only freethought newspaper.
Mr. Barker will describe the intellectual and psychological path he followed in moving from fundamentalism to freethought. “There is joy in rationality, happiness in clarity of mind. Free thought is thrilling and fulfilling--absolutely essential to mental health and happiness, “according to Mr. Barker.
