Event Description

“Opening my eyes to the real world, stripped of dogma, faith, and loyalty to tradition, I could finally see that there was no evidence for a god, no good argument for the existence of a god, and no good answers to the positive arguments against the existence of a god,” says Dan Barker.

Barker is the co-president of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, a group that promotes the constitutional principle of the separation of church and state. Founded in 1978, the Foundation is the largest national association of freethinkers, atheists, agnostics, and skeptics in North America with more than 15,500 members.

"The FFRF's recent victory in April declaring the National Day of Prayer unconstitutional rocked the religious right and corrected the lie that the Constitution is based on a deity," says Barker.

On Wednesday, Sept. 22, Dan Barker will be at CSU in the North Ballroom of the Lory Student Center from 4-6 pm. He will discuss his new book Godless: How an Evangelical Preacher Became One of America's Leading Atheists, which will be followed by a Q&A session and book signing.

“I was forced to admit that the Bible is not a reliable source of truth,” Barker said of his shift from belief to rationality. “It is unscientific, irrational, contradictory, absurd, unhistorical, and morally unsatisfying.”
