Let's meet for a fun night out at St. Louis' most entertaining urban playground, City Museum! [Note: not actually a museum.]
If 15 or more of us go, we'll get a group rate of $8.00 per person.
The caveat is that we have to make a single payment to qualify for group rates. We will gather in the lobby at 6:30. At 6:45 I will collect $$ from everyone, do a head count, and pay for us at the group rate. We'd love it if you can join us after this but you will have to pay the regular rate (Which is $10).
Since we'll be all over city museum, I will provide glowing wristbands to wear to identify each other.
This is an all ages event, so bring your kids/great grandma. Kids under 16 must have a chaperone. City Museum is open until 1am, so we can enjoy ourselves all night. The lights go down at 11pm for flashlight fun, so you might want to bring a flashlight. They also sell food/beer/soda. If you've never been to City Museum, you will not be disappointed. Bring decent shoes and clothes that can get dirty, because this is a place to crawl, climb, hide, and play.
Housed in the 600,000 square-foot former International Shoe Company, the museum is an eclectic mixture of children's playground, funhouse, surrealistic pavilion, and architectural marvel made out of unique, found objects. The brainchild of internationally acclaimed artist Bob Cassilly, a classically trained sculptor and serial entrepreneur, the museum opened for visitors in 1997 to the riotous approval of young and old alike.
Cassilly and his longtime crew of 20 artisans have constructed the museum from the very stuff of the city; and, as a result, it has urban roots deeper than any other institutions'. Reaching no farther than municipal borders for its reclaimed building materials, CITY MUSEUM boasts features such as old chimneys, salvaged bridges, construction cranes, miles of tile, and even two abandoned planes!
"CITY MUSEUM makes you want to know," says Cassilly. "The point is not to learn every fact, but to say, 'Wow, that's wonderful.' And if it's wonderful, it's worth preserving."
P.S. Our fair organizer Joe will be performing in the Everyday Circus at 7pm and 9pm.
